Who makes GPON systems?

Most vendors of GPON network equipment sell both ONTs and OLTs since it has not been practical to deploy anything but equipment supported by the same vendor on both ends of the local loop fiber. CIG, TXP, and Comtrend all sell just ONTs, but they tend to focus on OEM deals with the other vendors who do have OLTs.

Interesting insight. The OLT manufacturer’s have not yet gotten comfortable with third party ONT systems. This is a clear departure from the DSL model where the DSLAM is designed to work with third party DSL modems – though some pairings work better than others. Over time, just as in the DSL model this will evolve with standards support.
